All social media forums (YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat etc.) have a minimum age limit of 13 in the UK, in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. This is to protect younger children, as they may know the e-safety rules but they don’t necessarily have the maturity to follow them when using social media. They also don’t always understand the implication of having an online presence and that this can have far reaching consequences. It just never hurts to have a conversation with them about how they use social media just to be sure.
